Launch to both students and parents and set a deadline to apply. We can collect all applications and payments, removing the hassle of additional admin from your shoulders. We'll keep you updated as applications come in and let you know how many students have signed up by the deadline.
Preparation is key to a successful expedition. We have developed three training sessions designed to provide parents with all the key information prior to departure and equip students with the knowledge to take their first steps into the world of travel.
EST 1 - Expedition skills training including basic first aid training for all explorers and team building exercises. Parents will also be invited for part of the meeting to discuss the destination, itinerary, and personal kit.
EST 2 - a one day course to expand on the skills and knowledge learned from EST 1 in an outdoor environment. This will be the first time the students will be working together in the outdoors and meet the Expedition Leader joining them in-country.
EST 3 - the final meeting before departure, usually held the day before or the day of departure. Team building activities, personal kit check, group kit checks, and travel documentation check run by the Expedition Leader.
You're ready to head off on the adventure of a lifetime!
FAQs
How can I get my school interested in starting an expedition?
Email or call us to chat through what you need. We can provide documentation needed for SMT approval, meet with your EVC or Head directly, and arrange a convenient time to present to your students - whatever works best for your school!
What is expected from teachers?
We understand that school life is a busy one and we are happy to take on the administrative burden of collecting applications and payments for parents and students if you wish. You will need to facilitate the scheduling of expedition skills training (EST) sessions that will prepare the students for their adventure and attend a two day Staff Preparation Conference along with the rest of the adult leadership teams prior to departure. This conference typically takes place over the first weekend in March. Other than that, you will need energy, enthusiasm, and a willingness to explore new surroundings and cultures.
What is included in the cost?
The cost of the expedition covers all in-country food, accommodation, transport, permits, planned activities, comprehensive insurance, adult leader costs (including teachers and expedition leader), pre-departure advice, and support and back-up whilst in-country. Flights however are not included but we are happy to arrange a quote and booking for international flights.
What are the benefits of participating in an expedition?
Being part of an overseas expedition proves an excellent tool for personal development and an opportunity to change your outlook on life. You will see changes in the students and also within yourself! Exposure to different cultures, new landscapes and experiences remain with participants for many years to come, building towards skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication, problem solving, and organisation - all of which are an indispensable advantage throughout education and beyond. What teacher doesn't want to develop their students into the global citizens of tomorrow?
What happens if there is an accident during the expedition?
In the event of a minor accident, the casualty will be taken to a recognised and suitably-equipped medical centre in-country with a travelling school staff member as pastoral support, with guidance and support from our UK-based operations room and in-country agents. When the participant is well enough, they will then re-join the the team and continue the expedition. In the event of a participant requiring specialised attention, they will be moved to an appropriate facility by the fastest means possible based on the team's location, or repatriated if necessary, with the support and guidance of our operations room and in-country agents. This is covered by our comprehensive insurance package for all expedition participants. Our UK operations rooms is open 24/7 whilst teams are in-country and can be reached by email, phone, satellite communication, and emergency locator should there be an incident on expedition. All staff responsible for manning our operations room are have received training in off site safety and incident crisis management.
